Baker Awarded I-95 Bridges Rehabilitation Project in Virginia

Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE Amex:BKR), announced today that it has been awarded a 48-month, $14.9 million contract from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to deliver construction engineering and inspection (CEI) services for the I-95 Bridges Rehabilitation Project in Richmond, Virginia.

Specifically, Baker will provide comprehensive CEI services for the rehabilitation of eleven bridges on one of the busiest corridors on the east coast. The I-95 Corridor is a six lane divided interstate through the City of Richmond and Henrico County. This corridor is a major thoroughfare for downtown area commuters as well as serving the east coast travelers. These bridge rehabilitations will be performed using state of the art “accelerated bridge construction” techniques.

“This contract award is very important to continue our construction services growth in the Southeast and specifically the state of Virginia which is one of our most valued clients,” said Tom Zagorski, P.E., vice president and national construction services director.

“This is an extremely challenging project due to the traffic flow in the corridor as well as the numerous stakeholders and minimizing the impact to the traveling public. The unique bridge rehabilitation construction activities will require excellent communications between the project team, traveling public and business community. Baker’s proven project approach, reputation for safety, and coordination with our client will be a critical factor for success.”

“The I-95 project will be one of the most high profile construction projects in the Commonwealth,” said Scott Fisher, P.E., VDOT Project Manager. “Selecting a partner like Baker provides us with bridge construction expertise affording the Commonwealth with the highest confidence of project success.”
