Wood from Wheat Straw

WoodStalk is a fibreboard composite made by Dow BioProducts using waste wheat straw and Dow Chemical’s polyurethane resin. The lack of formaldehyde in the product makes it a much safer alternative to products like medium-density fibreboard (MDF) and an ideal material for use in sensitive areas such as hospitals, schools, medical facilities, museums, and retirement homes.

As waste wheat straw is commonly burned, the use of WoodStalk cuts down on CO2 emissions. WoodStalk can also be used as a replacement for Lauan plywood flooring, saving the world’s rainforests.

WoodStalk has unique particle geometry and consistent properties that allow for intricate machining, give a high quality finish and reduce tool wear. It is also 10-20% lighter than most fibreboard products, which means easier handling and reduced transportation costs.
