Regional Contractors Team Up to Establish New National Company, MW Builders

With the construction industry rapidly evolving, construction owners and developers are requiring greater productivity, increased innovation, and in-depth national expertise from their general contractors. To better meet those needs, three leading regional contractors -- MW Builders, MW Builders of Texas, and MW Flint Hills, each previously operating as separate entities -- announce today they will unite as a new national company under the name of MW Builders.

As one organization, the three companies can now offer their partners the best of both worlds: the advantages of a local, relationship-based, "company-next-door" contractor paired with the wide presence, perspective and expertise of a national brand.

"Operating as a unified MW Builders enhances our opportunities to share knowledge and expertise internally, and it better equips us to stay on top of the current trends and challenges faced by our industry," said Tim Chadwick, president of the MW Builders offices in Texas and Flint Hills. "Most importantly, our vast experience across geographies and industries is now more accessible to our business partners."

MW Builders is licensed in more than 40 states and employs over 200 people currently working on job sites in 10 different states around the country. By bringing those employees under one umbrella, the company's clients will receive the benefits of shared resources and innovative leadership that spans company lines. Clients will even have the option of hand-selecting a project team crafted specifically for each individual job site, drawing on the best expertise of MW Builders employees throughout the company. Additionally, this new structure better positions MW Builders for strategic growth within many of their current industries -- including government, education, hospitality, military, retail, senior living, and public works -- which are some of today's hottest construction sectors.

"The current economy has fundamentally changed the way we do business," explained Pete Kelley, president of the MW Builders office in Kansas. "We need to leverage our collective history within markets where demand remains strong," he said, citing as an example the company's growing proficiency in government procurement to support their pipeline of army projects.

"Understanding our clients and the way they want to do business has always been our focus," added Kelley. "These changes are designed to further enhance our ability to do that."

MW Builders' client-focused approach isn't new -- it dates back to when the company got its start as a small, depression-era basement plumbing business in 1932. Over the past several decades, MW Builders has grown into the national contractor it is today by always putting the needs of their clients first. And now, the new MW Builders boasts a diverse portfolio of award-winning projects, including:

  • Receiving the prestigious top honor of "Military Contractor of the Year" given by the Northwest Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
  • Having a project highlighted on the cover of Engineering News-Record (ENR), one of the industry's top national publications, in November of 2009
  • Building more than 180 hotels across the country, including constructing the 600th Residence Inn by Marriott
  • Being named "Best of 2008 Construction: K-12 Schools" by Texas Construction for the LEED-Silver certified Borger Elementary School in Borger, Texas

The company has also won awards of excellence in site safety and is putting plans in place to expand their leadership in this and other areas through social media, speaking engagements, and continued professional development.

However, according to Chadwick and Kelley, the real source of pride for MW Builders comes down to two important assets: "Our people and our values," said Kelley. "With our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), every employee has a personal stake in our work and projects. We have a great set of skilled, dedicated workers, and we share a commitment to our core values of integrity, teamwork, quality craftsmanship, and entrepreneurial spirit that informs everything we do."

Added Chadwick, "As MW Builders, we're a national, innovative and forward-thinking company that is rooted in midwestern values. When it comes to selecting a construction partner, you really can't do better than that."
