Back To Basics: PROTEC and EXEC Lock Mechanisms

ABLOY® PROTEC and EXEC offer a wide range of features making it easy to select the best mechanism for every job.

The ABLOY EXEC cylinder mechanism is perfect for use in applications in which locks of a similar type need to be used, and with its key-retaining features is particularly suited to use in cam and furniture locks in many different applications, including museums, shops, galleries and utilities. EXEC is a one way mechanism that provides robust, reliable and virtually pickproof security for use in any external and internal application. It features a rotating disc mechanism that offers great strength and smooth operation, as a result of the patented disc steering system, which guides the key into the lock and ensures that the discs turn together, even in extreme climatic and environmental conditions.

The master keying possibilities provided by EXEC are extensive, regardless of the number of locks or access levels involved. For optimal security a strict key registration system is offered, with a choice of three security levels so that the most appropriate option can be selected for each individual application.

PROTEC is Abloy Security’s revolutionary rotating disc cylinder that provides robust, reliable and virtually pickproof security. This patented and extremely secure mechanism is perfect for use in hospitals, universities, and industrial and government buildings. The complete product range includes high security cylinders, deadbolts, industrial locks, cabinet locks, cam locks and padlocks.

Each PROTEC cylinder features a unique disc blocking function that, when the key is turned 90°, blocks the discs and locks them together by two return bars, defeating any attempt to manipulate the discs individually into position. The new sealed disc controller, containing smaller steel balls, a smaller keyway plus an all-metal key, has enhanced still further the smooth operation of ABLOY PROTEC and practically eliminates wear and tear.

The unique ABLOY PROTEC mechanism has been developed to offer unparalleled master keying possibilities, enabling locking systems to be developed that include thousands of doors and multiple security levels. The exceptional strength, durability and manipulation protection offered by ABLOY PROTEC has been recognised with accreditation to European Hardware Standards including EN1303.

Unlike competing locks, the PROTEC and EXEC cylinder mechanisms are free from wear-prone pins and springs, and as a result boast exceptionally long operating life with minimal maintenance requirements.
