Embrace The Revolution - Special Guided Tour Of The Community Wind Turbine On Saturday 25th June

On Saturday 25th June, the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) will be celebrating the power of the wind.

Visitors to CAT will be able to go on a special guided tour of Pobl Pwr, the Dyfi Valley’s own Community Wind Turbine.

Pobl Pwer is a famous wind turbine - it was the first ‘local community owned and managed’ turbine in the UK. Since its installation in April 2003, many visitors have come to seek inspiration for their own community renewable energy projects. The turbine has brought financial, social and environmental benefits to the local community. As the energy is sold, shareholders receive a dividend on their investment. The turbine was developed, financed and installed by local people and was so successful that a second community turbine is now planned.

The electricity generated by the wind turbine is helping the environment by combating climate change, saving 70 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year. As a second hand turbine, it had already offset the energy used in its manufacture and installation so generated 100% clean electricity from the moment the blades begin to turn.

The guided tour will be led by wind specialists Duncan Kerridge and Tim Brewer and will commence at 2pm, outside the CAT restaurant. The tour will last approximately two hours and involves a climb up the hill! For further information, please contact CAT on 01654 705950 or [email protected]
