Axion International Receives Purchase Order from South American Railway Line Operator

A producer of railroad ties and industrial building products made from 100% recycled plastic; Axion International received its first purchase order originating in South America.

The order requires Axion to install its one-of-a-kind Recycled Structural Composite railroad ties for a railway line operator in South America.

The undisclosed railway line operator is purchasing railroad ties of sizes ranging from 9”to 20”. The longer ties are meant for use in places where tracks join together or split apart. The recycled products will be installed in the main metro line running along the city, responsible for transporting 400,000 passengers annually. The composite ties will replace the current wooden ties.

The CEO and President of Axion, Steve Silverman stated that by using Axion’s patented material that has been designed from 100% recycled material, the railway line can lighten the strain on landfills by diverting plastic waste to the tune of 81,000 pounds.

The proprietary Recycled Structural Composite material developed by Axion does not contain any toxic material and is inert. It is resistant to insect infestation and is also warp resistant. Additionally, the composite material is lighter than other materials that exist in the market, thereby reducing energy and cost of transportation.
