CitySim Designer is used at the masterplan stage to design energy efficient eco-districts by optimising:

  • the placement, shape and orientation of buildings according to solar gains,
  • the physical attributes of the buildings (such as glazing ratio, glazing type and insulation thickness),
  • the occupation schedules of the buildings (residential, commercial and administrative),
  • the solar protections and ventilation.

The software's userfriendly interface offers easy-to-read graphical representations of the key results for entire urban districts.

Initially developed at EPFL and already used by more than 200 scientists around the world, CitySim has become a reference even before its official release. The software is distributed by kaemco LLC, a spin-off company of the EPFL Solar Energy and Building Physics Laboratory. A simplified free version is available for download on the company's website.
