Low-Cost Hurricane Resistant Housing from Global Portable Building

As 2006 hurricane season kicks into gear, Global Portable Buildings, Inc. (GPB) of Santa Rosa, California is poised with the capacity to produce thousands of low-cost, transportable, hurricane-resistant housing units for emergency shelters, medical field clinics, and reconstruction offices and living quarters.

These durable buildings are manufactured from new ISO standard steel containers, 8 ft. x 20 ft. and 8 ft. x 40 ft. in size. They can be shipped to any shipping port in the world by standard cargo container ships, air, rail, or truck. They do not require a foundation yet can withstand 100 mphn winds without anchoring. When anchored with a GPB patented auger hold-down
system, these portable buildings can even endure Category 5 hurricane winds up to 175 mph.

GPB provides a variety of models, options, and configurations from which to choose. Basic models include windows, entrance doors, A/C 110v/220v electrical wiring, telephone connections, 2-inch rigid insulation in the finished walls and ceiling, vinyl floor covering, and utility room. Upgraded versions include such amenities as a kitchen, bathroom with shower, bedroom, solar-powered electricity, etc. GPB also provides connecting units (for dining rooms, clinics, classrooms, etc.) and even knockdown units which are great for shipping. To complete its product line, GPB offers separate 8 ft. x 20 ft. shower and toilet units comprised of either six showers or six toilets, with four sinks and mirrors, and even unique 8 ft. x 10 ft. foldable steel storage unitsed.
