DuPont Launch Breathable Metallized Housewrap Designed to Enhance Thermal Performance of Walls

As part of its expanded market-facing sustainability commitments, DuPont has introduced DuPont(TM) Tyvek(R) ThermaWrap(TM) -- a breathable, metallized housewrap designed to enhance the thermal performance of walls. DuPont(TM) Tyvek(R) ThermaWrap(TM) provides all the additional benefits of a weather-resistant barrier and helps thermal management by managing radiant heat, while helping to protect structures from air and water intrusion and UV rays.

DuPont(TM) Tyvek(R) ThermaWrap(TM) is a specially engineered housewrap with a breathable aluminum layer. Its combination of high vapor permeability and thermal protection forms a quality wall defense against moisture condensation, which can lead to mold and mildew growth. Previously, non- DuPont generations of radiant barriers were commonly made solely of aluminum foils, which act as barriers and do not permit water vapor to pass through, and can lead to moisture accumulation and possible damage.

"This is a truly revolutionary product that delivers sustainable solutions through science and innovation," said Tom Powell, vice president and general manager - DuPont Surfaces and Building Innovations. "DuPont(TM) Tyvek(R) ThermaWrap(TM) has been engineered to provide the best possible balance of breathable barrier properties, so it's light and flexible, highly vapor permeable, but still air-tight, water-resistant, wind-tight and will last the entire lifetime of any building. We're focused on ensuring homes are tightly sealed, protected from harsh weather, while at the same time create aesthetically pleasing, comfortable living environments."

Because it is a low emissivity (low-e) surface, DuPont(TM) Tyvek(R) ThermaWrap(TM) increases the thermal performance of walls by ultimately reducing the transfer of radiant heat both into and out of homes. It works all year long to balance thermal performance, considerably reducing the amount of heat loss during the winter and permitting heat reflection in the summer.

DuPont(TM) Tyvek(R) ThermaWrap(TM) is an example of DuPont's recently announced marketplace sustainability commitments, expanding its business offerings to address safety, environment, energy and climate challenges in the global marketplace. As part of its 2015 Sustainability Goals that are focused on the marketplace, DuPont has committed to grow its annual revenues by at least $2 billion from its broad range of products -- like DuPont(TM) Tyvek(R) ThermaWrap(TM) -- that create energy efficiencies and/or significant greenhouse gas emissions reductions for its customers. DuPont estimates these products will contribute at least 40 million tons of additional CO2 equivalent reductions by its customers and consumers.
