Steel versus concrete and wood for new homes

The Honolulu Advertiser has published an article questioning the environmental credentials of steel framed buildings as steel frames are rapidly becoming the most popular option for new homes.

The article finds wood to be the most energy-efficient framing material, in that it requires less energy to produce than concrete and steel. Steel, however, is endlessly recyclable. The big advantage of concrete is that it stabilises interior temperatures, which reduces heating and cooling costs.
