Suffolk to Construct Parking Garages and Surface Lots for Florida Marlins Stadium

Suffolk Construction Company’s Southeast region has been awarded a contract to manage construction of the Florida Marlins Stadium Parking Garages valued at $75 million. The project consists of four parking garages—two at six stories high and two at five stories high—and six surface lots, along with retail space.

A significant challenge during the construction of the Marlins Stadium parking garages project will be the tight coordination between Suffolk’s project teams and the existing contracting project teams currently managing construction of the new Florida Marlins Stadium, which will be adjacent to the new garages.

“We are excited that the City of Miami chose us to manage construction of the parking structures for the new Marlins stadium,” said Rex Kirby, President and General Manager, Suffolk Southeast Region. “This project will require comprehensive planning and tight management of the entire construction process, especially since our construction activity will be in close proximity to the construction of the stadium. Our teams have a strong reputation for delivering the most complex projects on the most aggressive schedules, so we look forward to demonstrating our technical knowledge and innovative project management approach on this very important, high-profile project.”

The Marlins Stadium parking garages will be constructed using a standard foundation with spread footings, a precast joist system and cast in place decks. The parking garage walls will consist of tilt-up precast construction.

Construction of the Marlins Stadium parking garages project will be completed on an aggressive schedule. Suffolk project teams are currently in the preconstruction phase and will break ground in May 2010. The project is scheduled to be completed by December 2011.
