MedBuild Receives Top Honors for Imaging Facility Construction at Nash General Hospital

Modular Building Institute (MBI) has named MedBuild, a healthcare division of ModSpace, first-place winner for their 2010 Awards of Distinction. MBI gave MedBuild top honors in its permanent healthcare category for its construction of the patient-ready imaging suite at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount, N.C.

MedBuild was recognized for constructing the 1,064 square-foot imaging facility in 187 days, while meeting stringent architectural, technical, cost, energy, and scheduling requirements. MedBuild is the specialized healthcare division of Modular Space Corporation (ModSpace®), one of North America’s largest modular building providers.

“We are honored to be recognized for our Nash Memorial Hospital Project and our commitment to providing healthcare providers with high-quality facilities that solve challenging spacing issues,” says Jim Gabriel, Director of Business Development for MedBuild. “This award is shared with Siemens Design Construction Service Group who worked in tandem with MedBuild to accommodate all of Nash’s requests and custom design their imaging suite to operational efficiency and safety. Together, with Siemens, MedBuild was able to offer a cost effective way to add space to Nash’s facility, improve patient care, and enable access to state of the art PET/CT technology.”

Nash General Hospital needed a new imaging facility to seamlessly integrate with its existing radiology department. The new space had to be non-combustible and include a concrete floor that would be able to support Siemens 7040-pound Biograph 6 PET/CT equipment. Nash needed a patient-ready facility built, the equipment installed and fully operational, within just a few months.

The diagnostic imaging suite was comprised of two modular components. The suite was seamlessly integrated into the existing hospital campus using the same interior colors and materials. The exterior was finished in brick which matched the surrounding buildings. A glass corridor was built to connect the suite to the hospital providing a natural, open-air atmosphere when walking into the PET/CT suite. Additional natural light was provided from the four by four foot window placed in the viewing room.

“We are pleased to collaborate with MedBuild and Nash General Hospital to provide one of our state-of-the-art Biograph 6 TruePoint PET/CT systems,” said Steven Wagman, vice president and practice director, Solutions Implementation, Siemens Healthcare. “These types of collaborative solutions provide customers access to leading-edge technology.”

The MBI Awards of Distinction contest is the commercial modular industry’s premier awards program, offering competition in over 30 categories for MBI members, including building manufacturers, dealers, and product and service providers. Entries are temporary, permanent, and renovated modular buildings, as well as industry marketing pieces. A new green building design category gives both MBI members and college and university students the opportunity for world-class recognition.

Each Awards of Distinction entry is reviewed by an impartial panel of industry and non-industry construction and code experts, architects and engineers, and marketing professionals. It is evaluated on architectural excellence, technical innovation, cost effectiveness, energy efficiency, and calendar days to complete.
