Leading Mall Developer Selects Otis For Shopping Center Expansions In Austria, Eastern Europe

Otis, has been awarded contracts valued at more than USD 22 million (Euro 17 million) to install 277 elevators, escalators and Trav-O-Lator® moving walkways in six new shopping malls located in Austria and several Eastern European countries.

The contracts with ECE of Hamburg, Germany, the premier developer of downtown shopping malls in Europe, call for Otis to complete the installations in Austria, Poland, Hungary and Czech Republic by 2008.

“We are proud that ECE has once again shown confidence in Otis technology by choosing us for this entire series of projects,” said Otis President Ari Bousbib. “Our selection confirms that Otis products meet the needs of customers in some of Europe’s most dynamic markets.”

In addition to the installation contracts, ECE has signed a 10-year maintenance agreement with Otis, covering all units in all locations.

“Otis products are reliable and Otis people are always professional and customer oriented,” said Jens Kohlmorgen, managing director of ECE. “It is important to have a reliable partner like Otis who works effectively with the general contractor and solves problems on the jobsite independently without long discussions.”

ECE has developed, planned, constructed, leased and managed shopping centers since 1965. The 7,600 businesses located in the 80 centers operated by ECE have achieved annual sales of Euro 9 billion. Otis will install a total of 105 elevators and 172 escalators and Trav-O-Lators for the malls in Krakow and Gdansk, Poland; Brno and Prague, Czech Republic; Györ, Hungary and Klagenfurt, Austria.

Otis Elevator Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation, is the world's largest manufacturer and maintainer of people-moving products, including elevators, escalators and moving walkways. With headquarters in Farmington, Connecticut, Otis employs 60,000 people, offers products and services in more than 200 countries and territories and maintains more than 1.45 million elevators and escalators worldwide.
