IES Builds Rooftop Photovoltaic System for San Diego County

Independent Energy Solutions, Inc. (IES), a leading solar energy development and construction firm, today announced the completion of a utility-scale rooftop photovoltaic (solar electricity) system for Wilco Industries in Vista, California (north San Diego County).

The system, capable of generating more than 454,000 watts of electricity (DC power), was developed under contract for local utility, SDG&E, and Renewable Energy Services (RES), a service-disabled veteran-owned small business. The project was funded through SDG&E's Sustainable Communities Program which installs green energy systems for LEED certification and helps the utility meet its renewable energy portfolio requirements.

Some key system features include:

  • Annual electricity production of 670,940 kWh (estimated kilowatt hours) - enough to power 61 average homes for a year.
  • More than 870,000 pounds of CO2 greenhouse gas offset - the equivalent of taking 109 cars off the road.
  • 2,112 Kyocera solar panel modules installed.

According to IES' chief operating officer, George Gisel, "IES was selected by SDG&E and RES for our extensive engineering experience and self-performance capabilities. Unlike many solar developers who rely heavily on subcontractors, we did 95% of the work with our own employees. That means a higher quality, more cost-effective system for our customers."
