Ruukki strengthens its position on the Norwegian steel structure market through a key role in construction of a new landmark building in Bergen. Helleren ranks among one of Bergen's largest construction projects ever. Ruukki's delivery includes the manufacture and installation of the steel structures. The customer is the Norwegian company Veidekke Entreprenør AS and the contract is worth around EUR 7 million.
Helleren, which is to be built in the centre of Bergen, comprises a new national swimming complex, with the facilities to hold major national and international swimming competitions. In addition, the building consists of a new upper secondary school for 900 students. The building will total around 28,000 square metres.
"In Norway, Ruukki is known as an expert, reliable company with proven excellence in the construction of challenging projects. Our previous experience includes successful cooperation in the Oslo Opera House project," says project manager Øyvind Dietrichson at Veidekke Entreprenør.
Ruukki's delivery includes the manufacture and installation of the steel structures.
"Ruukki has recently been involved in a number of extensive construction projects in Norway. The swimming complex roof structure, which consists of large demanding trusses, calls for special expertise in this project. We have a sound track record in the manufacture and installation of similar structures," says Sami Eronen, SVP, Infrastructure and Northern Europe, Ruukki Construction.
The steel structures will be made mostly at Ruukki's unit in Peräseinäjoki, Finland. Deliveries will begin in summer 2011 and continue into early 2012. Helleren will open in late 2012.
Ruukki has had a role in a number of significant construction projects which have started up over the past year in Norway. The more significant projects include Kilden, the new theatre and concert hall in Kristiansand, DnB NOR's new head office in Oslo and the new concert hall in Stavanger.
