Schwarzenegger's Solar Plan Terminated

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's $2.5 billion program to construct solar panels on 1 million residential and commercial rooftops failed to give get final approval on the last day of the legislative session.

The 10-year measure, SB1, would have established the "Million Solar Roofs Initiative". The initiative aimed to kick start a self-sufficient solar industry by placing solar systems on 50 percent of new home developments. The measure would have offered subsidies for solar heating units with the goal of putting a million of them on homes and businesses by 2018. Negotiations over the bill continued on the last day of session a compromise was not able to be met by the opposing sides.
