U.S. To Consider Changes To Building Material Tariffs In Wake Of Katrina

The U.S. administration has said that it is considering adjusting high tariffs on building materials like lumber from Canada and cement from Mexico if building needs from hurricane Katrina cause prices to spike.

The tariffs arte in place to prevent materials being 'dumped' on the U.S. market.

"The government has the authority to adjust the tariffs in an emergency situation, but no determination has been made yet," said Treasury Department spokesman Tony Fratto.
