Heathrow Roof Takes Shape In North Yorkshire

It is visible for miles around, dominates the North Yorkshire yard it is being constructed in and has lots of questions being asked as to what the massive steel structure is being built for.

The answer is quite simple. It is a trial run for the roof of the new Terminal 5 building at Heathrow airport.

Severfield-Rowen along with a range of contract companies and airport operator, BAA, are building the 35 metre high structure at Dalton, near Thirsk, to test some new construction techniques on what has been billed as the current largest project underway in Europe. The terminal is due to be opened in 2008.
