CRH Acquires Dutch Brickmaker

CRH PLC (Dublin, Republic of Ireland) has announced that, as part of a busy period of investment in the first half of 2006, its Clay Products group has just acquired the brickmaker Nuth BV (Nuth, Holland), a manufacturer of soft mud facing brick with annual sales of 4 million euro.

The group said that this acquisition offered the opportunity to expand CRH Kleiwaren’s product range in the upper to medium price segment in the Dutch brick market.

The acquisition was one of five made by CRH's Europe Products, with a total investment of 54 million euro. The other four were completed by the Concrete Products group in Switzerland, Belgium, France and the UK.

Taken right across the company, CRH announced that it had undertaken 36 development initiatives totalling 372 million euro during the first half of 2006. These initiatives, which were in addition to the acquisition of MMI Products Inc for US$350 million (280 million euro) announced on 26 April 2006 and the acquisition of the Halfen-Deha Group for 170 million euro announced on 2 May 2006, bring total development spend for
the first half of 2006 to over 800 million euro.
