Paint Popularity Decreasing, Wallcoverings Increasing

The Freedonia Group, a research firm from the US, has reported that demand for wallcoverings other than paint is expected to rise 5.7 percent per year through to 2007.

These wallcoverings include ceramic tile, wood panelling, wallpaper and finished gypsum board. Fastest growth is expected for finished gypsum board due to demand from new manufactured housing. The two largest wall covering products are ceramic tile and wood panelling which are at the mercy of both construction and fashion trends. Commercial and Office construction is expected to boost these product segments and ceramic tile will have the added advantage of the general increase in size of bathrooms and kitchens.
