New Guide to Help Shape Sustainable Communities

A guide offering practical advice to local authorities on how to work most effectively with strategic partners in the shaping of sustainable, mixed communities was launched today by Angela Smith, Minister at Communities and Local Government.

Planning Together, LSPs and Spatial Planning: a practical guide seeks to help improve collaboration between local planning authorities and those involved with Local Strategic Partnerships (LSPs) to help in the creation of good places and the provision of better local services.

As set out in the recent Local Government White Paper, the Government believes councils should take the lead in developing Sustainable Community Strategies and Local Development Frameworks to help stimulate local renewal and create sustainable communities.

Angela Smith said:

“The planning system is at the heart of shaping and delivering the strong, mixed communities in which everyone has the right to live. This guide provides a useful tool for Local Authorities in helping them coordinate their work with planners, LSP co-ordinators and elected members”.
