Strategic Forum for Construction Announces Next Chairman

The Strategic Forum for Construction has announced that its next chairman will be Mike Davies, Non-Executive Chairman of Marshalls Plc and former Vice President of the Construction Products Association (CPA).

He will succeed James Wates as Chairman in July 2007 when the CPA takes over the secretariat of the Strategic Forum from the Construction Confederation.

Mike Davies is a former Chairman and Chief Executive of Baxi Group Ltd and is currently the Senior Independent Non-Executive Director at Taylor Woodrow plc.

The Forum comprises six members: Construction Industry Council, Construction Clients Group, Construction Confederation, the Construction Products Association, NSCC/SEC Group and the TUC. Amongst the key themes in the Forum ’s work are improving health & safety, promoting sustainable construction, and encouraging a more integrated approach to construction procurement. The Forum is also co-coordinating the delivery of the six headline targets distilled from the recommendations in the report Accelerating Change, published when Sir John Egan was Forum Chairman.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Davies said: “I am very much looking forward to taking over the Chair of the Forum this summer and continuing the excellent work that has been carried out by James Wates in defining and developing its strategic role.

“Our industry, which is at the heart of the UK economy, is central to many of the key challenges facing this country, from the drive to achieve greater sustainability to the delivery of the nation’s homes, workplaces, schools, hospitals and transport infrastructure. I believe the Forum has a crucial part to play in ensuring the industry’s continued success in meeting these challenges.”
