Construction Progressing well for Helicopter Hangar

This multi-million pound development project will provide modern hangarage for up to three aircraft together with associated accommodation for its 24 hour operational personnel at MCA Daedalus, Lee-on-Solent.

Raymond Brown Construction Ltd of Ringwood are the appointed Building Contractors who are undertaking this 50 week build.

The project is being managed on the Agency's behalf by the hangar designers, Parson Brinckerhoff Ltd of Godalming, Surrey.

The first aircraft to use the hangar will be the new generation Augusta Westland AW139 which will be replacing the existing Sikorsky S61N helicopters early 2008.

Peter Dymond, Chief Coastguard said:

This will provide the Maritime and Coastguard Agency with another modern helicopter base on the south coast with state of the art facilities.

The completion of the hangar will coincide with the new Coastguard SAR helicopter contract in early 2008.

Margaret Kowaleska, Estates Manager for the MCA said:

The building project to construct the new hangar for our new modern helicopters is progressing well.
