Corus Distribution and Building Systems Form Greek Joint Venture

Corus Distribution & Building Systems (CD&BS) Division has today signed a 50:50 Joint Venture agreement with Kalpinis Simos to set up a new steel distribution centre, Corus Kalpinis Simos Steel Service Centre (CKS SSC), in Thessaloniki, Northern Greece, which will offer a full range of steel products. The JV is subject to regulatory approval.

CD&BS already has a successful JV with Kalpinis Simos, near Athens in Southern Greece, Corus Kalpinis Simos (CKS), which operates a sandwich panel line with an existing capacity of over 1 million square metres per annum. Alongside today’s JV agreement, both companies have also made an investment commitment to double capacity at CKS’ existing sandwich panel line, approaching a total capacity of 2 million square metres per annum.

Scott MacDonald, Director CD&BS Division at Corus said, "Both companies consider the success of our existing joint venture as a firm foundation for further co-operation and growth. The ideal location of CKS SSC will allow us to supply both the Northern Greek market as well as neighbouring countries including Albania, Bulgaria, FYROM*."

The new operation is expected to commence in the second half of 2008 and to handle a capacity of 150,000 tonnes per year. The new equipment will consist of two cut to length lines, one slitter and auxiliary equipment.
