Kier Islington Best Business Practices For The London Borough of Islington.

At a meeting held in Islington recently it was mutually acknowledged that since its move from Ashburton Grove to make way for the Emirates Stadium in February 2004, Kier Islington has vigorously endeavoured to adopt the best business practices in the activities the company undertakes for the London Borough of Islington.

Since achieving ISO9001:2000 in September 2004 Kier continues to maintain its certification through regular visits from internationally recognised independent assessors United Registrar of Systems (URS).

Mr Ian Pearman, a director of URS, said: “It is good news to see a company embrace the standard in spirit as well as in word. Kier has continued to make improvements in its operations since certification, and it is pleasing to see each year that the performance, including client satisfaction, is improving.”

In December 2005 Kier achieved Investors in People (IiP) certification and in December 2006 certification to ISO14001:2004 was also achieved following assessment, again by URS.

Kier Islington’s senior operations director Richard Jackson said: “Even though we have a fleet of over 150 vehicles, our energy use and CO2 emissions are much lower than the national average because we moved to more efficient diesel engines three years ago and already we have 18 LPG vehicles. We continue to upgrade our fleet.

“Last year we invested in software that optimises journey planning for our vans. This has reduced the annual mileage of our fleet at a time when our volume of work has increased significantly.

“Furthermore we can see the results of the synergy of integrating externally certified management systems alongside the Kier Group’s health & safety system to the benefit of our clients and employees.

“We are indebted to our mentor, Bernard Tracey of Penarth Management, who has inspired us to continually improve our environmental and quality targets.
