Raychem Underfloor Heating from Tyco Thermal Controls Meets 5-Star Hotel Requirements

Tyco Thermal Controls has been contracted to design and supply its Raychem electric underfloor heating systems for all 95 bathrooms at the luxurious new Kempinski Hotel Charles V in Bruges, Belgium. This hotel development involves the restoration and renovation of two historic buildings - a former convent and a castle - located in Bruges’ medieval city centre which is itself a recognised UNESCO heritage site.

The Kempinski Hotel Charles V will be Bruges’ only 5-Star hotel and great attention is being paid to providing the ultimate in quality and comfort, as befits its status. This is clearly evident in the 95 bathrooms where Raychem T2QuickNet-160 electric heating mats are being installed under marble tiled floors to provide a comfortable warm floor of 29°C.

Tyco Thermal Controls won the contract with a combination of its quality product offering and a design service that enabled it to provide project engineers Tractebel Engineering, and its subsidiary Technum who are also supporting the project, with detailed installation designs and a bill of materials to supply floor heating to every bathroom. Complete designs for all 95 bathrooms were prepared within 4 days of receipt of the project drawings, using Tyco’s proprietary Raychem Floor Heating Planner Software. These included 2D and 3D graphics to assist the installation team visualise the layouts before work commenced.

The ultra-thin Raychem T2QuickNet power mats are ideal for renovation projects as they can be installed with virtually no impact on floor height. Supplied pre-assembled and ready to install, they have been designed specifically by installers for installers and are supplied as complete kits containing all the components required to complete the job. Tyco Thermal Controls offers two power mat options – a 90W/m2 version and the fast heating 160W/m2 version which was chosen for this hotel project.

Belgium based electrical wholesaler, Cebeo provided the supply channel to site, with logistical support from Tyco, and all materials were available to the installers within 48 hours.
