New Luxury Apartments in Cornwall get Top of the Range Underfloor Heating from Raychem

Tyco Thermal Controls’ distributor partner Jointing Technologies West was commissioned to design and supply Raychem T2Red+Reflecta electric underfloor heating systems for Rowe Property Developments’ exclusive Arvor apartments development, built on the site of the former Westbay Hotel at Maenporth, Cornwall. The main contractor John Nicholls contracted Falmouth based electrical contractor, Addinalls Ltd. to carry out the installation.

Named after the Cornish word for coast, Arvor is a development of nine two-bedroom luxury apartments on a hilltop location offering spectacular views of the beautiful Falmouth Bay and Maenporth Valley. Everything about the new Rowe Holdings’ development exudes quality and this is reflected in the choice of top-of-the-range Raychem self-regulating electric underfloor heating systems to provide the sole heat source.

Raychem T2Red + Reflecta underfloor heating systems employ Tyco Thermal Controls’ proprietary self-regulating heating cables to provide zone power control. They sense other sources of heat locally all along their length and automatically adjust output to deliver heat only where it is needed. When used in combination with pre-grooved, thermally insulated, aluminium-covered Reflecta plates, heat loss is minimised and optimum heat distribution achieved. The complete RaychemT2Red+Reflecta system can be assembled to fit all room sizes, is suitable for use under any traditional flooring, including solid wood, and offers energy savings in excess of 20 per cent compared with using heating cable alone.

SJH Design Services specified this floor heating system for the Arvor apartments, having recognised the special characteristics of T2 Red+Reflecta as being particularly appropriate. Solid wood flooring is used extensively in the apartments, so self-regulating cables offer an obvious advantage as they cannot overheat and damage the floor. Self-regulating cables also compensate for the high solar gains generated through the large sea-view windows and only deliver heat where needed. The reduced heat losses and optimum heat distribution, achieved by laying the cable within Reflecta plates, also met the quality requirement and high performance criteria demanded for such a luxury development. Furthermore, even though the bathrooms had tiled floors, the same RaychemT2Red+Reflecta underfloor heating system was installed ensuring there would be no floor-height variation through the thresholds.

All Raychem underfloor heating systems are PVC-free and emit no electric and negligible magnetic fields – making them completely safe for use in domestic properties. Tyco Thermal Controls supports these systems with a 12 year manufacturer’s triple-warranty.

Comment from Mike Greenslade, MD at Rowe Property Developments
“We are delighted with the Raychem self-regulating electric underfloor heating system and are very impressed with the level of heat it provides. We are confident our apartment owners will appreciate having such effective heating without radiators”.
