Wall Capping and Parapet Sealing Problems Permanently Solved with Guttermaster's New Aluminium Coping

Capping and sealing parapet walls is a perennial problem - not least because traditional copings require regular inspection and scrupulous maintenance. Snap-Lok, an innovation from architectural aluminium specialist Guttermaster, solves these problems.

Snap-Lok is a precision formed two-element coping. It offers a long life effective sealing that is quick and easy to install, virtually maintenance free and available in different styles and finishes to suit the practical and aesthetic requirements of any project.

Installation is straightforward. The fixing plates are anchored to the inner and outer leaves of the wall by standard fixings and fitted at the ends and centre of each three metre length of outer coping. Angled projections to the inside and outside of the fixing plates provide anchorage. As the outer capping is pushed down over the fixing plate the return edge of the capping engages with the angled projections in a snap action. This provides a security against even severe winds.

A bead of silicone under the outer capping at the joint prevents moisture creeping horizontally. The dimpled surface of the fixing plate secures the silicone bead and prevents excess compression. The heads of fixings are hidden from view by the outer capping, which also avoids the potential weak point of a through fixing.

The top of the outer capping may be curved, angled or ridged according to design requirements. Installations will require only periodic cleaning to preserve their appearance and an extensive range of RAL finishes are available in addition to mill finish or polished aluminium. The majority of installations are on straight walls, but Snap -Lok can be manufactured to any radius where walls follow a curved line.

Guttermaster have had considerable success, both in new build applications and refurbishment. Snap-Lok has been used as a replacement for other aluminium systems that have been damaged by storm force winds. Sections are installed in lengths of three metres so that site work can proceed rapidly.

Snap-Lok addresses the need for sustainability. Because of its long life and low maintenance, the embedded energy used in its production is written off over many years. With only modest care there is no reason why the system should not last as long as the building.

Aluminium remains a high-value material that is fully recyclable. Snap-Lok is made from 100 percent recycled aluminium. The use of reprocessed material from recycling reduces energy requirements and CO2 emissions by 95 percent compared with the production of virgin aluminium from ore.

In addition to Snap-Lok, Guttermaster produce aluminium gutters and rainwater down pipes in both traditional and modern designs. Aerofoil fascias, soffits and other bespoke architectural aluminium fabrications are also available. All design and manufacturing processes are subject to stringent quality assurance procedures. Guttermaster is one of only a small number of companies to have been pre-qualified under the Alliance Warranty Scheme. An optional Pioneer insurance backed guarantee covering material and labour for 10 years is available.

The company works closely with architects, contractors, developers and their clients to provide attractive and durable roof drainage and perimeter design profiles. A free design guidance download is available from: www.guttermaster.co.uk/design_guidance.htm.
