Many homeowners are treating their backyards as an extension of their living space and as such are undertaking major renovations to enjoy the great outdoors. Leisure Woods, premier manufacturer of gazebo kits provides their top five enhancements for backyard renos this year.
"Homeowners often consult me as to what they should do to enhance their backyard living space," comments Charles Scordato, President of the family owned business Leisure Woods. "It is thrilling to see so many homeowners treating their backyards as an extension of their indoor living space."
Scordato says one of the first thing homeowners should do is investigate their fencing. He suggests they find out if boards need replacing, does the fence need painting or staining or is it in need of replacement. "The fence lines the yard and provides a backdrop, so it really should be in beautiful condition."
The next enhancement he suggests is to look at the garden space. Make sure the green space is being maintained properly. Scordato recommends that if the gardens are too large and aren't been maintained, they should be culled back.
"I always ask homeowners what their vision is for their backyard. Do they envision it as an entertaining space, a space for rest and relaxation or will it serve many purposes," Scordato comments. "Almost always, the addition of an outdoor gazebo will really enhance usage of the space. A gazebo provides respite from the elements, is wonderful for entertaining intimate groups and can be a terrific place to relax with a book without having to worry about bugs and flies."
The next addition or enhancement that Scordato recommends is adding a patio or decking. "It is nice to have a defined area for patio chairs and loungers. By adding a stone patio or wood deck, you can clearly identify your seating area."
Finally, Scordato feels that many homeowners neglect their backyard lighting. "To really make the outdoor a functional space you need adequate lighting. Nowadays, there is fabulous lighting technology that provides wonderful lighting that is environmentally friendly."
