Regenerating social housing and other outdated buildings, in order to surpass the Decent Homes Standard, will be the theme of the afternoon Seminar sponsored by the Insulated Render and Cladding Association. This is one half of the twin seminars to discuss the use of external wall insulation, the morning seminar concentrating on new build. Both seminars will be held on Wednesday, October 1, at the Lancashire County Cricket Club, Old Trafford, Manchester, and specifiers are invited to attend one or both sessions.
Leading the afternoon seminar will be Kate Symons, Head of the Refurbishment and Regeneration team at the Building Research Establishment (BRE). Her talk, ‘Rethinking Housing Refurbishment’ will discuss the challenge posed by the 50% of the housing stock requiring more costly but economic solutions.
Maxwell Hutchinson, Past President of the RIBA and practising architect from the Hutchinson Studio, will lead the morning seminar by discussing advancements in insul ated renders for new construction, in order to reach the Government’s challenging targets. The theme of the Seminar is “how insulated renders lead the way for designers to achieve Level 4 through to zero carbon homes”. Maxwell, a well known radio and television broadcaster, with particular knowledge of external wall insulation, will also be Chairing the two seminars.
Both Seminars20will include appropriate case studies. In the morning, Ang us Brown, Fraser Brown MacKenna Architects, will descri be new student accommodation at the University of East London. Tom Rhys Jones, Jefferson Sheard Architects, will discuss the new Barnsley Transport Interchange rail and bus station.
In the afternoon, Nigel Coxon, Wates Living Space, talks about high-rise social housing at Curle Street, Glasgow;20whilst Chris Price, Neath Port Talbot CBC explains how BI SF housing has been brought up to today’s stand ards of warmth and comfort.
Architects, builders, local authorities and housing associations are invited to attend either or both seminars and meet the i ndu stry over lunch, at no cost to specifiers – and visit the adjoining exhibition, which will feature the latest in external wall insulation systems and finishes.
