Unique Motorized Locks Backed by Innovative SmartKey Technology Controlled Using Web and Mobile Phones

Black + Decker, the industry leader in residential security hardware, is providing 2009 CES attendees a highly-anticipated sneak preview of its consumer electronic line of remote and wireless residential access control solutions offered under the Kwikset® and Baldwin® brands. Developed for interoperability with home automation and security systems, these ground-breaking, electronic motorized locks deliver a full range of access control features unlike any other product on the market. Key features include true remote locking and unlocking, door lock status notification and automatic security system arming and disarming via Web-enabled mobile phones, remote controls and computer Internet connections. These solutions also include SmartKey, the revolutionary new technology providing homeowners the ability to re-key locks quickly and easily for improved control and security. Black & Decker's offerings will be on display for demonstration at CES 2009 in Las Vegas, Jan. 8 - 11 at the Control4 (South Hall #21413) and Z-Wave (South Hall #20619) booths.

Black & Decker's remote access control products feature electronic motorized deadbolts that can be locked or unlocked via remote, Web-enabled mobile phone or computer Internet connection.

"As we examined the security alarm industry, we were surprised to learn that home security systems could tell if the door was open or closed, but couldn't tell if it was securely locked," said Dave Albert, vice president, Brand Marketing and Business Development, Black & Decker Hardware and Home Improvement. "Furthermore, we saw the ability to remotely lock or unlock your door from a security or home automation system a great value add feature. Now, from anywhere with Web access, Black & Decker's solutions allow homeowners to see if doors are locked, and if not, lock them through that Internet connection without requiring the physical presence of a person to engage the deadbolt. These new solutions truly advance the way we live and manage our busy lives."

Lock the Door, Without Ever Touching It
Black & Decker's one-of-a-kind, electronic motorized lock throws the bolt and provides the ability to lock and unlock doors via a remote control, mobile phone, security system touch panel and/or secure Web access. This unique approach is different than other electronic deadbolt locks that require you to manually actuate the bolt to lock or unlock the door.

"We are of the mindset that it's not truly remote access if you can't lock or unlock your door without a physical person turning the hardware - and that's what differentiates Black & Decker's remote and wireless access control solutions in today's marketplace," said Albert.

Lock Enables Two-way Functionality
Black & Decker's highly anticipated residential access control solutions feature two-way functionality where the door lock can directly control the home security and automation systems, and vice versa. Homeowners use customizable codes that will arm the home security system when the door is locked and disarm the system when the door is unlocked. Likewise, home automation systems can be configured to automatically set home lighting, music and climate controls based on the code used to unlock the door. To enhance the user experience, these products will eliminate the need for hard wiring by operating on 4 AA batteries and will fit all standard door preps. By establishing the door lock as a user interface, the increased security and convenience provided to the homeowner is dramatic, and the customization possibilities are virtually limitless.

Revolutionary SmartKey Technology Built-In Wireless and remote access-enabled Black & Decker locks feature SmartKey technology with BumpGuard™ protection as their key back-up. SmartKey, which was first introduced in 2007, is the only widely available lock on the market that allows homeowners to re-key their lock(s) quickly and easily themselves without removal from the door.
