Dashwood House Gets Dali Lighting Controls with Latest Emergency Testing System

Simmtronic lighting controls have been installed as part of Land Securities' major renovation of the Dashwood House corporate office building in London. The scheme was designed in conjunction with consultants Long and Partners, applying the latest DALI lighting protocol equipment and featuring Simmtronic's advanced Automatic Testing System (ATS) for DALI based emergency lighting.

The result of two years R&D, the new Simmtronic DALI ATS supervises more that 1000 DALI emergency luminaires and is one of five such major systems recently installed. In accordance with the latest international standards for automated testing, the system provides unprecedented testing coverage and security of what has traditionally been a complex task. The system also yields significant labour savings and eliminates the normal risks associated with testing an occupied building.

In order to achieve a performance level well above basic systems that only collect self-test results, the Simmtronic ATS turns-off the stand alone self-test feature of the DALI inverter. The ATS then automatically generates a centrally controlled testing and reporting schedule which is closely integrated with the lighting control front end, using a common graphical environment and luminaire positional database.

Skanska undertook the complete refurbishment to modernise and extend Dashwood House and enhance the flexibility and quality of the office space offered to tenants. In a full CAT A fit out, Balfour Kilpatrick, the mechanical and electrical services contractor, commissioned Simmtronic to provide the fully addressable DALI lighting control scheme in order to accommodate any additional features and configurations required by incoming tenants. The Simmtronic system provides an advanced and fully integrated scheme with high-spec energy saving daylight and presence linked control.

Dashwood House is in a prime location off Broadgate, London and Land Securities extensive renovation of the original 15 storey mid-rise building included the addition of two new floors and a new glazed façade. Internally, the office space has undergone extensive modernisation, with state-of-the art electronic and computer routing systems installed to provide corporate clients with all-important communications and IT service capabilities.
