LED Lighting Simulation Earns Technology Award

Future Lighting Solutions announced today that its QLED thermal simulation software for solid-state lighting designers has earned top honors in the Product Development Excellence category of LED Journal’s Innova Awards. The results of the competition, designed to recognize LED-related technology breakthroughs, were announced in the publication’s January/February 2009 issue.

Developed in conjunction with Qfinsoft, QLED reduces LED application design cycles, development costs and time to market by eliminating the traditional trial-and-error approach to thermal design. The software guides users through step-by-step design wizards to select, place and simulate power LEDs mounted on FR-4 boards or MCPCBs. It also calculates the expected luminous flux produced by the LED and allows users to seamlessly integrate thermal vias, heat sinks and fans to generate the most accurate transient or steady state thermal simulations.

In order to assist the solid state lighting industry to further accelerate the design cycle for developing reliable LED-based systems, Future Lighting Solutions has decided to significantly subsidize the purchase price of QLED licenses. In addition, Future Lighting Solutions has extended the QLED trial period from one week to two to give designers more time to evaluate the software’s features and capabilities. The QLED evaluation version can be downloaded free of charge at www.futurelightingsolutions.com/qled.

“Customers using QLED can literally develop, simulate and optimize thermal designs in minutes instead of working with a thermal design engineer and costly software alternatives,” said Patrick Durand, Worldwide Applications Manager for Future Lighting Solutions. “This award recognizes the significance of having this kind of tool to accelerate product development and help bring LED lighting into the mainstream.” A QLED evaluation version can be downloaded free of charge at www.futurelightingsolutions.com/qled.

The Innova Awards, announced annually by LED Journal, are designed to recognize companies for industry leadership, product development excellence, best new technology and outstanding LED applications that are paving the way to the widespread adoption of LED technology.
