NCC Construction Sweden is to convert the Kabeln 5 property block in central Sundbyberg into offices and stores.
The property, an industrial building dating back to the 1940s, will maintain its industrial character with large windows and high ceilings and comprise 12,000 square meters of office and retail space. The customer is Diligentia and the order is valued at about SEK 180 million.
To date, the Kabeln property block in central Sundbyberg has accommodated various industries, including a telephone cable plant and rubber cable plant. The architecture is classic industrial brick, which is worthy of preservation as part of Sundbyberg’s character and history. “To preserve the façade, NCC is renovating the large factory windows. However, to make the building environmentally friendly, preserve heating and block cold air, the inner glass panes are being replaced with energy glass,” says Micael Jonsson, Project Manager at NCC Construction Stockholm/Mälardalen. The refurbishment will result in modern office and retail premises. The work will be conducted in two phases. In the first phase, the first-floor garage and retail premises on the second floor will be built. During the second phase, offices for the Swedish Enforcement Authority will be built on the third and fourth floors, as will storage space and locker rooms on the first floor. The first phase commenced in August 2009 and is scheduled for completion in April 2010. The second phase will commence in September 2009 and is scheduled for completion in November 2010. A total of 25 NCC employees will work on the project. The order will be registered in the third quarter of 2009.
