In 2009H1, the growth rate of Chinese plastics industry was in decrease. From January to May, the sales totaled RMB 361.709 billion, rising by 6.31% YOY.

In June 2009, the producer price index (PPI) of Chinese plastics was 94.7, 8.66 lower than that of last June and 2.5 higher than the general PPI of the entire manufacture in June 2009.

Since 2009, influenced by the recovery of macro economy, investment in fixed assets of Chinese plastics industry has increased compared with that of the last year. In 2009H1, the total investment in fixed assets was RMB 59.812 billion, increasing by 30.50% YOY; the growth rate increased by 11% YOY, 1.2% higher than that of the entire manufacture in the same period. Fixed asset investment in Chinese plastics industry took up 2.4% of that in the entire manufacture. The proportion rose by 0.02% YOY.

In 2009H1, the total output of Chinese plastics was 20.156 million tons, increasing by 4.9% YOY. The growth rate declined by 8.28% YOY. The Top 5 in output were Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong and Liaoning. The aggregate output of these provinces took up 66.83% of the total output.

In 2009H1, the total output of Chinese plastic film was 3.2058 million tons. The Top 5 in output were Zhejiang, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong and Shanghai. The aggregate output of these regions accounted for 73.93% of the total output.

In 2009H1, the output of Chinese plastic sheet material totaled 1.4372 million tons. The Top 5 were Anhui, Guangdong, Liaoning, Jiangsu and Zhejiang. The aggregate output took up 75.27% of the total production.

In 2009H1, the output of Chinese plastic wire and weaving product was 2.4579 million tons. The Top 5 in output were Shandong, Liaoning, Zhejiang, Hubei and Sichuan. The aggregate output took up 61.21% of the total production.

In 2009H1, the output of Chinese daily use plastics was 2.4456 million tons. The Top 5 in output were Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong and Fujian. The aggregate output took up 79.01% of the total production.

In 2009H1, the export of Chinese plastics was USD 6.565 billion, declining by 7.1% YOY; the import was USD 1.294 billion, declining by 22.8% YOY. There was a surplus of USD 5.271 billion in 2009H1.

Though the global demand for engineering plastics began to decrease from 2008, Chinese ABS demand will continue to rise with an annual growth rate of 6%. In recent years, the ABS productivity in China grows greatly. This will affect the operating rates of ABS producers in other regions of the world.

Medical plastics are estimated to be one of the most popular products in Chinese plastics industry in the future. Chinese annual consumption of PVC granules for medical use is 40,000~50,000 tons. It is mainly used in tubes of transfusion devices, etc. It is increasing with an annual growth rate of 10%. There is great potential for PVC.
