Market Research Report on BAS Services in North America

Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/311b6b/north_american_bas) has announced the addition of Frost & Sullivan's new report "North American BAS Services Market" to their offering.

This Frost & Sullivan research service titled North American BAS Services Market provides competitive analysis, forecasts of market revenues, and analysis of end-user segments. In this research, Frost & Sullivan's expert analysts thoroughly examine the following markets: building automation systems (BAS) installation services and BAS maintenance services in new construction and retrofit applications.

Focus on Energy Conservation to Buoy the North American BAS Services Market

The increasing focus on energy conservation, the need to reduce operating costs, and the energy-efficiency initiatives are encouraging companies to install and maintain building automation systems in their buildings. These systems can minimize energy consumption in buildings and provide enhanced comfort levels by controlling the energy-consuming equipment in the building. A BAS enables companies to achieve their energy efficiency goals by monitoring the building's environmental conditions and optimizing the operation of its equipment. "In fact, by increasing the efficiency of the building's operations, a properly tuned BAS can lower the amount of energy consumed by up to 20.0 percent to 30.0 percent," says the analyst of this research. "In addition, by optimizing the performance of the various building systems, the lifespan of the equipment can be prolonged, making the overall building more sustainable."

BAS companies are seeking new revenue sources in the retrofit markets, as there has been a decline in the new building construction market. As nearly 70.0 percent of the commercial buildings in North America are more than 25 years old, the potential for retrofitting buildings with a BAS is very high. Market participants can also increase their profits by installing BAS in existing buildings that do not currently have automation. "While in the last couple of years the revenues from new construction for most market participants were quite high, in 2008 the percent of revenues from retrofit work was about 55.0 percent and is expected to continue to increase," notes the analyst. "As a considerable part of the market growth is due to the renovation of existing buildings, the retrofit business is expected to drive the demand in the next couple of years."

However, despite the trend toward automation and green buildings, the current economic climate has put a damper on the adoption of BAS, especially given the high costs of installation and added expense of a service contract. Nevertheless, the North American BAS services market is anticipated to rebound after 2010 and grow steadily until 2015. "In order to be successful in this highly competitive market, it is essential for BAS service providers to not only effectively reduce energy consumption but also be able to show measurable savings," observes the analyst. "Designing a system that will be able to adequately address the specific needs of the customer is key to reducing energy usage and providing maximum operational savings."
