Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Building Receives LEED Silver Certification
Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance declared that its existing corporate office buildings located in Springfield, MA, has been granted LEED Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
It took nearly two years for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance to ascertain that all eco-friendly requirements of LEED are implemented in a building that was originally constructed in 1927 that underwent a number of changes over the years. The improvements include the installation of solar energy and other energy saving measures to cut down the costs on gas and oil and electricity, and the installation of efficient/low-flow plumbing fittings all over the building to minimize water usage.
The building incorporates appropriate waste management and recycling facility and adopts eco-friendly cleaning, utilizing low impact pest repellents. To cut down the carbon dioxide emissions it promotes the use of public transportation, telecommuting and car pooling. The included bicycle parking and shower/changing amenities encourages the use of the cycle.
