South Carolina DOT Awards Construction Engineering and Inspection Contract to Baker

Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation, has been awarded an On-Call construction engineering and inspection (CE&I) contract by South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) District 1, which encompasses the counties of Lee, Kershaw, Lexington, Sumter and Richland.

The agreement is for three years and has a maximum value over the term of approximately $3.0 million.

Specifically, Baker will perform a broad range of CE&I services on various construction projects in the District, including but not limited to: construction management, construction engineering, assurance and acceptance inspection, sampling, testing, and construction survey verifications to determine contract requirements on various projects statewide. Baker’s services will conform to current state policy and practice for construction engineering including the certification of personnel. Additionally, the performance of the services will, where applicable, ensure that quality materials are incorporated into the project, that quality workmanship is being applied, and that the project is in compliance with applicable state regulations regarding environmental issues.

“By selecting Baker for this CE&I open-end agreement, SCDOT has demonstrated its confidence in our experienced and talented staff,” said Tim Sewell, P.E., Baker’s South Carolina construction services manager. “We look forward to not only meeting but surpassing all of the Department’s expectations.”
