Thermiser Max and Temp-Master Doors Meet ASHRAE Prescriptive Air Infiltration Requirements

Cornell Iron Works' Thermiser Max® and The Cookson Company's Temp-Master® insulated rolling doors have been successfully tested to comply with the prescriptive air infiltration requirements of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE®) 90.1-2013, as well as the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC®) 2012 and the California Energy Code.

By incorporating a unique combination of sealing, insulated curtains and thermally broken guides, the design effectively meets air infiltration requirements of less than .3 cfm/ft2. Air infiltration is reduced by 94%, compared to a standard rolling door.

Cornell-Cookson Announces First Insulated Rolling Door Design Independently Tested to Meet ASHRAE(R) 90.1 and ICEE(R) 2012 Air Infiltration Requirements

Recognizing that all components of a commercial building should contribute to the structure's energy efficiency, the most recent versions of sustainable building codes such as ASHRAE 90.1, IECC 2012 and the California Energy Code, institute a higher standard for rolling doors (also known as coiling doors), than ever before.

Thermiser Max and Temp-Master doors pair innovation, code compliance and energy savings with the durability and security users have come to expect from rolling doors. "Over the last few years, we have seen increasing demand for improved energy efficiency in rolling doors," states Dave Spath, Director, Industrial Business Segment; CIW Enterprises, Inc. "We are pleased to introduce the Thermiser Max and Temp-Master as the only solution to comply with the air leakage requirements of ASHRAE 90.1, in addition to the California Energy Code, Title 24. We are continuing to make energy efficiency a core feature of our design, since it is increasingly important within the building envelope."

Beyond securing and protecting exterior-facing openings, Thermiser Max and Temp-Master insulated doors can also be used in interior applications to separate spaces, improve employee comfort and provide sound attenuation.

States or jurisdictions are responsible for enforcing building energy codes, and developers, designers and contractors are responsible for compliance. To learn more about the codes mentioned above, visit the U.S. Department of Energy website at www.energycodes.gov.
