New Chief Executive for BRE

Dr Peter Bonfield has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of BRE. The appointment comes as part of a restructuring of the BRE group of companies with Martin Wyatt and members of the current BRE board forming a new holding company to oversee the strategic expansion and development of the group as a whole.

Dr Bonfield's fifteen year career in construction has focused on driving innovation and improved sustainability across all construction sectors. He has led major initiatives in the areas of new build and existing housing, as well as in commercial and public sector buildings.

Over the last 10 months he has been on part-time secondment to the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) where he has helped create the sustainable development strategy for the Olympics. His current role is as leader for construction products to be used in the build programme for the games.

BRE this year celebrates its 10th year of operating in the private sector and this appointment marks a step change in the development of the organisation.

Dr Bonfield commented "I am delighted to take up this appointment at a time when our industry is in a period of rapid and unprecedented change - for instance there is an urgent and vital need to reduce the carbon footprint of our new and existing buildings and we must also address the way the industry contributes to our society and the economy as a whole. BRE's extensive expertise and knowledge are needed now more than ever."
