Interest in Designing and Constructing Green Buildings in NYC

Interest in designing and constructing Green Buildings in New York City was evident at a recent Spec-It Green event in New York City on June 6th. Over 100 enthusiastic trade professionals gathered to learn about local green building material manufacturers and distributors. Sponsored by Globus Cork Inc, ITAC and NYIRN, the event drew a large crowd of architects, builders, designers and LEED accredited professionals. A wide ranging panel discussion reviewed the impact and benefits of green buildings as well as green manufacturing practices.

Event participants recognized a growing interest in green materials from within their own companies as well as from their clients. Many noted that the general growing enthusiasm was a result of several trends coming together including the passing of Local Law 86, broader public interest in the environment and more visible presence of green materials in media coverage.

Globus Cork is a manufacturer of colored cork tiles used primarily for flooring. With a wide range of colors, shapes and sizes, Globus Cork offers designers the creative range to design mosaic-style floors in an eco-friendly product. Even better than a renewable resource, Cork is a Harvested Resource as the cork tree is never cut down, only the bark is harvested. The cork bark grows back and is harvested every 9 years. The tree's lifespan and productive years can be nearly 200 years. All pigments, varnishes and adhesives that Globus Cork uses in producing its tiles are water-based, solvent-free and eco-friendly.
