In Safe Hands With Silverdell UK

To further establish and develop the SAFE (Silverdell Academy for Excellence) training concept, Silverdell (UK) Limited have purchased a mobile training suite providing the ability to deliver site-based operational training in a working environment. Site-based training is more commonly delivered in an ad-hoc way, using facilities not suited to either delivering or receiving instruction and training. The SAFE Mobile training suite is a pioneering training facility that will change the face of training within the asbestos management industry.

The Training Manager can now attend site with this facility giving a degree of flexibility which enables the training to be tailored to reflect ‘actual’ site conditions. On a commercial level, the ability to deliver training at the ‘coalface’ reduces the impact on both costs and programme, which benefits all Silverdell’s clients.

This not only provides a highly-trained, competent and motivated specialist workforce, but assists in ensuring the project is delivered as programmed.

The additional benefits of SAFE mean that asbestos awareness training can be delivered to Silverdell’s clients’ staff and those groups based off-site who, as detailed in the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006, are required to receive asbestos awareness training.

This degree of flexibility, coupled with the ability to tailor the asbestos awareness training to reflect individual site conditions will help the Construction Industry as a whole. This will raise awareness amongst Construction Industry Operatives with regard to Asbestos and the mandatory legislation that surrounds it.

John Hanley, ESH Director, Mace Ltd said:

‘The introduction of this rigorous and credible training will only benefit the construction industry as a whole, we all appreciate the inherent risks associated with the removal of asbestos, and look to specialists like Silverdell (UK) Limited to provide us with a highly skilled and technically knowledgeable workforce. The further launch of Silverdell’s mobile training facility gives a new and flexible approach to the delivery of asbestos awareness training, where it’s needed. When it’s needed and delivered to those who need it most’

He went on to say:

‘We are proud to be one of the first of Silverdell’s clients to adopt the service for our projects and supply chain.’

The initial concept of SAFE was in response to the growing demands for raising the standards within the industry as a whole. Silverdell has developed a well structured, thorough and exhaustive training programme, where all of their Operatives and Supervisors are required to attend. This is in addition to those wishing to work with Silverdell through their approved supply chain.

‘The introduction of this training initiative will allow us to develop our skills and help those who are just starting in the industry to learn how to do it the right way. The chance to receive recognised qualification for the job we do is great, I look forward to my next training day!’ – Tony Kaylor – Supervisor, Silverdell (UK) Limited

ARCA (Asbestos Removal Contractors Association) has attended a series of meetings with Silverdell and fully support the SAFE initiative as they continue to 'lead the way' in the provision and delivery of training for the asbestos industry. These initial meetings were warmly welcomed by ARCA, who immediately saw the benefits of the programme and realised the importance of their input.

Terry Jago – Chief Executive, ARCA commented: “Training at all levels is of paramount importance in the asbestos abatement industry. This has been recognised by Silverdell, one of ARCA’s leading full contracting members in the development of the SAFE mobile training unit. It will obviously reduce the down-time spent by site staff having to visit external training centres and will therefore be of benefit to both the client and those trained.”

The addition of the SAFE Mobile Training Suite has taken the SAFE initiative on a step further, providing fantastic degree of flexibility. In alliance with their colleagues at Redhill-Analysts, Silverdell has developed an effective platform to deliver asbestos awareness training to those wishing to comply with Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 (CAR 2006).
