Winner of the Forth Road Bridge Tender to be Announced in 2011

Tenders for the Forth Road Bridge will be invited from two consortia before the end of the year – but a winner will not be decided until spring 2011.

Morrison Construction and Hochtief have teamed up with Spanish firm ACS and American Bridge, while Morgan Est, Balfour Beatty, Bam Nuttall and Vinci have teamed up to form Forthspan to take on the job.

Client Transport Scotland is currently undertaking the necessary due diligence to allow the job to go ahead.

A spokeswoman added: "This will take some weeks to complete but we expect to be able to start the tendering phase well before the end of the year."

Work on the 2.7km bridge, which will be cable stayed with three mono-towers, carrying a dual two lane carriageway main crossing, will start before 2012.

Trunk road connections are included in the contract, as is ongoing maintenance.
