Atherton Baptist Homes to Start Construction of New Apartment Development

Atherton Baptist Homes, one of San Gabriel Valley's oldest and most respected senior residential communities will break ground on its newest development -- The Courtyard -- on February 5, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. The Courtyard will consist of 50 luxurious, independent living apartments with underground parking. The development will be located at the corner of Sixth Street and West Commonwealth on Atherton's 15-acre campus.

"The Courtyard represents the most ambitious building project in our 96-year history. Both in size and scope, it is simply breathtaking. Out staff and board are united in believing that this is what seniors are calling for in the next generation of retirement living," said Dr. Dennis E. McFadden, President and CEO Atherton Baptist Homes.

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 625 West Commonwealth and will include remarks by city of Alhambra officials. Following the ceremony, guests will be invited to take a guided tour of the Atherton Campus and learn more about The Courtyard project at the Welcome Center.

The Courtyard residence will feature two and three stories of spacious apartment homes with a variety of floor plans and luxurious amenities. Courtyard residents will join the 350 seniors who currently call Atherton home and take advantage of campus-wide amenities including an on-site coffee shop, dining facilities, beauty salon, indoor swimming pool, fitness center, community chapel, game room, workshop, library and art studio.

"We are thrilled about living at The Courtyard. It's exciting to join an established community with such a rich history, coupled with modern facilities. We've already decided to look at upgrading to a bigger floor-plan," said a recent depositor couple who have already chosen The Courtyard as their future retirement home.

The project financed with tax-exempt bonds and designed and built by The Haskell Company of Jacksonville, FL, is expected to take about 14 months to complete.  The Courtyard's design is in keeping with the areas architectural influences, featuring lovely breezeways, a center court with lush vegetation, fountains, pergola and wandering paths.
