Turner to Renovate Federal Office Building in Washington

Turner Construction Company, the nation's leading general builder, has been awarded a $73 million contract by the General Services Administration to provide general contracting services for the renovation of Federal Office Building 8 located in Federal Center Southwest in Washington, D.C.

The 1960s-era laboratory building will be transformed to Class A office space to accommodate approximately 2,000 Health and Human Services and House of Representatives committee staff members. Upon completion in October 2012, the project will seek a LEED Gold certification from the United States Green Building Council.  

The scope of work includes a Green renovation of the 547,000 sq. ft. building to provide an improved work environment for the building's occupants and reduce the use of natural resources. The renovation will add natural daylighting, employ the use of energy and water-efficient fixtures and low-VOC materials. The renovation will feature the addition of two atriums, glass curtain walls on each end of the building and projected window bays on the north and south facades. Turner will also recycle and reuse construction and demolition waste on this project.
