Foundation Blocks – Aircrete Blocks for Use Below Damp Proof Course (DPC)

Celcon Foundation blocks are commonly used in a range of thicknesses from 200mm upwards for use below DPC level. The blocks have excellent thermal performance, and are equally suitable for the support of cavity or solid walls, framed construction or suspended floors such as beam and block floors.

Celcon Foundation Blocks

Celcon Foundation blocks are ideal for use below DPC level. They are easily laid and being less than half the density of traditional masonry offer considerable improvements in the speed at which dense blocks can be laid. Unlike aggregate blocks, which require two skins with a concrete filled cavity, Celcon Foundation blocks can be used as a single skin, so there are no wall ties and no cavity to fill. Using Celcon Foundation blocks the footings can be backfilled as soon as the installation is complete, usually on the same day.

Further Benefits of Celcon Blocks

A further benefit of Celcon Foundation blocks is the reduction of ground floor heat loss, which is most critical at the perimeter of the floor. In certain situations this removes the requirement for further costly floor insulation.

†These weights are at typical block moisture content when laid. Some manufacturers may quote weights which have not allowed for this.

Note: CONIAC recommendation for repetitive manual handling of blocks – 20kg or more should be two-person or mechanically handled.

Celcon Solar Blocks

Celcon Solar blocks can also be used for foundation work. BBA Certificate 01/3816 confirms that all Celcon blocks are suitable for use in soil conditions from DS1 to DS4. For DS5 or contaminated sites tanking will be required. Extensive use and BBA approval of Celcon Foundation blocks have shown their exceptional resistance to freeze thaw conditions likely to occur below DPC level.
