YKK AP Adds New Commercial Building Products to its ProTek Line

YKK AP America today expands its ProTek® family of impact and blast-resistant commercial building products. Built to help protect buildings from the harshest natural and man-made threats, ProTek now includes new features to the YHC 300 OG curtain wall, the Model 35H entrance system and introduces the YFW 400 TUH impact-resistant fixed window. Having passed rigorous testing standards and received Florida Statewide Product Approvals for these products, YKK AP reinforces its leadership position in the development of hurricane and blast mitigation systems.

“The new features and product offering within the ProTek line strengthen our ability to offer world-class, high performing commercial building solutions that meet strict building codes and ensure the safety of occupants,” said Mike Gilbert, ProTek Brand Manager. “Our innovative team of engineers is always looking for ways to set new industry standards and produce architectural solutions that lower costs while improving overall efficiency. With these additions to ProTek, we are providing the market with a line of high performance glazing systems that are economically sensible.”

YKK AP upgraded the YHC 300 OG system to expand the application of the product across a wider range of design pressures and configurations. It now allows for dry-glazing in large missile applications to improve the speed of installation for quicker dry-in of the building. New mullion and glazing options enable it to cost-effectively meet the project’s design requirements in lower pressure regions, inside the High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ), and has also added Missile Level E protection for essential facilities that must remain functional during a storm.

To maximize security and design attributes of its solutions, YKK AP also incorporates new value-adds to the Model 35H entrance system. Expanded hardware options include mid-rails, continuous hinges, offset pivots, and Von Duprin® brand exit devices. In addition, the Model 35H is the first entrance system in the industry to provide impact rated rim panic exit devices paired with an aluminum removable mullion. This combination is ideally suited for institutional applications, such as educational facilities and arenas.

Finally, YKK AP rounds out ProTek’s expansion with the introduction of the YFW 400 TUH fixed window system. As with most ProTek products, the fixed window system offers cross-functional design options allowing it to be used in applications for hurricane impact resistance and/or blast mitigation applications. This system is ideal for protecting punched openings and other fixed window configurations. It has received Florida Product Approvals for large and small missile impact resistance. YFW 400 TUH has been tested to the ASTM F 1642 blast mitigation standard at a 6 psi peak pressure and a 41 psi-ms impulse where it received a "Minimal Hazard" rating demonstrating its exceptional performance.
