New Publication on Prestressed Concrete Structures

COST Action 534 New Materials, Systems, Methods and Concepts for Prestressed concrete Structures was a collaborative research effort bundling about 70 individual research projects in 25 countries, running 2002 - 2007 in the domain of Materials, Physical and Nanosciences. The overall objective of the Action was to increase the knowledge on the durability of existing and newly built prestressed concrete structures in order to prolong their service life, to minimise repair and monitoring costs and to improve their long-term safety.

The Final report brings together the results from the Action on the following topics:

  • New materials for prestressed concrete (fibre reinforced composites, corrosion protected high-strength steel, grouting materials)
  • New systems for prestressed concrete (polymer ducts, electrical isolation)
  • New methods for assessment and monitoring of existing prestressed structures
  • New maintenance methods and their applicability to prestressed concrete
  • New service life approach -- design for durability and safety including assessment of (partially) corroded prestressed concrete structures.
