Stream Data Centers Wins LEED Silver Certification for its San Antonio Facility

Stream Data Centers announced today that it has been awarded LEED Silver certification for its Ready-to-Fit Data Center facility in San Antonio, TX.  The powered shell data center building was completed in December 2009, and is located in Westover Hills, one of the top enterprise data center markets in the United States.

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Rating System was designed by the US Green Building Council to encourage and facilitate the development of more sustainable buildings and provides standards for environmentally sustainable design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.  Stream Data Centers' San Antonio facility incorporated numerous key design elements featuring recycled content and regional materials as well as provisions for ongoing conservation of natural resources related to water efficiency, air quality, and optimal energy performance.  The single-story, structurally-enhanced shell building allows access to recycled water from the San Antonio Water System (SAWS) and is served by two 300 megawatt substations maintained by CPS Energy, providing two redundant electric utility feeds to the facility.

"We are honored to have received this very important recognition from the U.S. Green  Building Council," said Bill Moebius, Stream's Director of Energy and Sustainable Operations.  "Stream Realty Partners has been at the forefront of the sustainability movement as an Energy Star Partner and Board Director for the US Green Building Council North Texas Chapter.  We are excited to continue this commitment through Stream Data Centers' development projects."

The San Antonio Ready-to-Fit Data Center consists of a 150,000 square-foot, structurally-enhanced building with 9" thick concrete walls and a concrete roof system designed to withstand 175 mph winds.  The 33-acre site is ideal for tenants requiring large set backs and expandability up to 350,000 square feet.  The facility is pre-approved for all essential data center elements including generators, cooling towers and fuel storage tanks.  Stream's Ready-to-Fit Data Center can immediately accommodate a tenant's design specifications allowing them to have their data center up and running in a few months.

"We're proud to have achieved LEED  Silver certification, which  further illustrates our support for green data center initiatives," said Anthony Bolner, Senior Vice President, Stream Data Centers.  "We are committed to being a leader in sustainable data center design and development."
