TXU Energy’s Headquarters Receives LEED Silver Certification

As more and more individuals and businesses are striving to "go green," TXU Energy is demonstrating its ongoing commitment to the environment through its award-winning, energy-efficient corporate headquarters, as well its efforts to encourage customers to make positive, everyday changes.

This year, Texas' leading electric retailer received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification for its corporate headquarters in Irving, Texas, from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED certification isn't just about recycling and reusing materials. It also focuses on maximizing energy efficiency and utilizing environmentally sustainable materials. This award comes less than one year after the company received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA), ENERGY STAR® award, putting the TXU Energy headquarters in the top 25 percent of facilities nationwide for energy performance.

"Taking these green steps cements the commitment we've made to the community to be an innovative, environmentally-friendly energy provider," said Michael Grasso, Chief Marketing Officer at TXU Energy. "It is also our goal to assist customers in improving the energy efficiency of their homes and businesses, which helps them lower costs and helps the environment."

TXU Energy is encouraging its residential and business customers to "go green" by offering energy-efficiency rebates for installing upgrades such as:

  • HVAC – Replacing old systems with new, energy-efficiency systems
  • Lighting – Using environmentally-friendly bulbs/occupancy sensors
  • Insulation – Improving insulation to keep the heat out in summer and the heat in during the winter
  • Windows – Replacing existing windows with those that have ENERGY STAR® ratings
  • Appliances – Using tankless water heaters, as well as controls for vending, coolers, etc.
  • Programmable thermostats – Offering a way to better manage energy usage

As a market-leading, competitive retailer that provides electricity and related services to more than 2 million electricity customers in Texas, TXU Energy also offers a variety of other innovative products and solutions, allowing both its residential and business customers to choose options that best meet their needs
